Ho Iu-kwong, the Master of Chih Lo Lou once lamented the destruction of ancient Chinese paintings and calligraphy due to wars, natural calamities, pest damage and the natural elements. The survival of these artworks owes much to the meticulous craftmanship of traditional mounting techniques. In collaboration with the Conservation Office, the Hong Kong Museum of Art presents this exhibition that focuses on selected research studies of the Chih Lo Lou Collection of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy. It explores Chinese paintings and calligraphy from artistic and scientific perspectives, providing insight into the conservation work behind the scenes of the museum.
Echoing the theme of merging art and science, the exhibition features a series of multimedia displays created by the local art group XR Experience. Through the use of augmented reality technology and projections, revealing the step-by-step processes in mounting and introducing a variety of commonly used mounting tools. The designed interactive animation also allows you to gain first-hand insights into their work.

A missing masterpiece for a century, the final work of the Austrian national treasure artist Gustav Klimt, "Portrait of Fräulein Lieser," was sold at a staggering price of 38.5 million euros (equivalent to 320 million Hong Kong dollars).
This painting may not be widely recognized by the public, but the most eye-catching aspect of the entire transaction is that the rumored buyer is the gallery HomeArt, founded by Rosaline Wang Yingyu....

The Ukiyo-e Museum of Japan: Drifting through the Edo Period
Bound by the bustle of life, the soul often yearns for a tranquil place to rest. "Escaping" to the Ukiyo-e Museum of Japan becomes an option, where one can wander through the artistic corridor spanning time and gradually step into the vibrant Edo period.
Ukiyo-e, a folk art that emerged during the Tokugawa shogunate period in Japan, has become an important part of Japanese culture with its unique artistic style and profound social connotations. In this museum, visitors can experience close-up the everyday life, landscapes, and vivid dramas depicted in ukiyo-e prints.
The entire exhibition revolves around the story of "The Tale of Genji," which is also the first time I have seen such a complete collection of "The Tale of Genji" works, also known as Genji-e. The exhibited artworks boast superior quality, with strong relief and excellent color rendering. They are by no means prints produced in a single printing; it takes at least 4-5 printings to achieve this level of quality.
During the tour, I also had the privilege of witnessing many masterpieces by ukiyo-e masters, including Katsushika Hokusai's "Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji" and Ando Hiroshige's "Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido Road." These renowned works, with their exquisite craftsmanship and profound artistic conception, showcase the unique charm of ukiyo-e art. At the same time, they vividly reflect the social customs and cultural atmosphere of the Edo period, demonstrating profound insights and unique perspectives on life, humanity, and society. It feels as if one is traversing through time and returning to that era when artists depicted the myriad facets of life with their brushes.
In addition to these masterpieces, the museum also exhibits a large number of folk ukiyo-e works, allowing me to deeply appreciate the extensive grassroots foundation and profound cultural heritage of ukiyo-e art. Although these artworks may not possess the same level of mastery as those by the masters, they are closer to life and brimming with rich local flavors and folk customs.
If you have the opportunity to visit Matsumoto, you can linger here, follow the inspiration of the paintings, and drift back to the past years. You can appreciate the essence of it to some extent.

The Shape of Temptation
Material:Acrylic on canvas
Size:120*75cm
In "The Shape of Temptation", a shape- shifting Angler fish looms over a clouded gathering, its darkness symbolizing the complexities of desire. Blurred faces contours reflect the distorted nature of our yearnings. Through colour and form, I explore the interplay of shape, consciousness, and the hidden darkness within our desires.
