August
to
September

On an August afternoon,
As the light softens and footsteps slow,
An artful summer quietly unfolds,
Bridging the city and the soul in silent bloom.

At September’s turning,
The wind stirs with a hint of autumn,
Each stroke of color on the canvas
Becomes a gentle message delivered by time.

This exhibition is an exploration of the essence of art and the liberation of the spirit. It seeks to break free from the constraints of knowledge and form, returning to the purest expressions of intuition and perception. The title draws inspiration from the Daoist philosopher Zhuangzi’s words: “The Perfect Man has no self, the Spirit Man achieves nothing, and the Sage has no name.” It reflects the belief that true art does not rely on language or rationality for definition, but reveals the most authentic flow of life through a state beyond conscious thought.

In SATORI, art is not merely a form of expression, but a response to the fundamental nature of existence and a release of the inner self. It invites each viewer to experience the creative energy that transcends boundaries, offering a sense of freedom in the intangible.

The exhibition invites viewers to return to the body as a point of origin amid the turbulence of the present. Through diverse visual expressions, it opens up inquiries into key contemporary themes such as existence and perception, identity and memory, and the tension between natural/urban landscapes and one’s inner spiritual homeland.

Darren Almond | Night Before Day

Dates: 18 July – 30 August 2025
Opening Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM (Closed on Sundays and Mondays)
Venue: White Cube Hong Kong
50 Connaught Road Central, Central, Hong Kong

In his exhibition ‘Night Before Day’, British artist Darren Almond furthers his long-standing engagement with the mutable constructs of time, place and memory. Comprised of three groups of work, his most recent series of paintings uses the motif of the weeping willow, formed by translucent washes of colour, as the entry point to examine our relationship to the seasonal changes taking place within the natural world. The foliage of the willow tree also features in works that use the elemental materials of gold, silver, copper and palladium to evoke the multiplicity of temporality, from the mechanical to the seasonal and celestial. In this way the surfaces of Almond’s paintings reflect and activate the dynamic qualities of light and space within the present and chart the passage of time. In the third group of works, numbers and grids provide a disciplined framework, giving form to the artist’s investigations into how time is measured, represented and understood.

A New Global Landmark in the Spotlight: The Grand Egyptian Museum — An Architectural Marvel and Cultural Ambition

The Vatican Museums have officially announced the completion of a ten-year restoration project on the Hall of Constantine, one of the four renowned Raphael Rooms (Stanze di Raffaello) located within the papal apartments of the Vatican Palace. These rooms, decorated with frescoes by Raphael, form the public section of the papal residence and, together with Michelangelo’s ceiling in the Sistine Chapel, represent the zenith of High Renaissance mural art in Rome.

According to the Vatican Museums, the restoration led to a significant discovery. It was long believed that the frescoes in the Hall of Constantine were entirely executed by Raphael’s three assistants after his death. However, new evidence uncovered during the restoration indicates that Raphael himself painted two of the figures and had been preparing to continue work on the hall before his untimely death.

Raphael, along with Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, is celebrated as one of the "Three Great Masters of the Renaissance."

Barbara Jatta, Director of the Vatican Museums, stated:
“Through this restoration, we have rewritten a part of art history. We now have two more works by Raphael.”

A Cultural Torchbearer in the Arts — Chantelle Huang

Chantelle Huang, one of the founders of the contemporary Hong Kong stream-of-consciousness painting movement, has emerged as a leading figure in the local art scene with her distinctive style and interdisciplinary achievements. More than just an artist, she is a dedicated advocate for cultural preservation and innovation. Born in Guangdong Province, she was inspired from a young age by the legendary Japanese contemporary artist Yayoi Kusama, the renowned “Queen of Polka Dots,” laying a strong foundation for her artistic journey. Her academic background spans multiple fields, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Law and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration—demonstrating her ability to merge intellectual rigor with artistic expression.

In 2010, Chantelle relocated to Hong Kong, where the fusion of mainland and local cultures profoundly influenced her creative evolution. While studying for an Advanced Diploma in Art and Design at Hong Kong Daai Arts Institute, she gradually broke away from conventional frameworks, embracing a freer, more intuitive form of expression. Through this process, she developed a visual language that reflects rationality and the independent spirit of modern women. Her work is layered with symbolism and contemporary nuance, challenging traditional forms and embracing a uniquely personal style grounded in both experimentation and instinct.

Chantelle’s works display a compelling blend of Eastern and Western aesthetics. Her flowing, unrestrained lines and intuitive brushstrokes are imbued with emotional depth. She excels at using layered techniques to build visual depth, incorporating contrasts in tone and deconstructed imagery to provoke introspection on the subconscious and self-awareness. Her art often explores themes of feminine strength and spiritual freedom, with compositions rich in abstract symbolism. To Chantelle, painting is an extension of the soul and consciousness—a direct channel for emotional energy and a conversation between artist and viewer.

Vibrant and emotionally resonant, Chantelle’s work leaves a lasting impression of vitality and expressive force. Beyond her own artistic practice, she plays a vital role in promoting Hong Kong’s cultural identity through curatorial work and international exhibitions. Her notable projects include Vietnam–Hong Kong: Art Essence, Stay True to the Original Aspiration, Art Unbound, and Forming Consciousness. The Vietnam–Hong Kong exhibition, in particular, marked a milestone in cross-cultural exchange, allowing Vietnamese audiences to engage directly with world-class art for the first time across borders. Her exhibitions have drawn global art enthusiasts while creating valuable platforms for emerging artists to showcase their talents. Many of her pieces have been auctioned for over HKD 100,000, reflecting her work’s growing recognition in the art market.

She is also a prolific contributor to the field of cultural writing. Chantelle has published numerous columns in Sing Pao Daily News, Lion Rock Daily, and other platforms such as NetEase, Tencent, Zhihu, Toutiao, and Yidian Zixun. Her writings explore the evolution of art and cultural heritage, further solidifying her voice in contemporary art discourse.

In addition to her creative and curatorial achievements, Chantelle is a passionate educator and cultural leader. In 2016, she founded the Hong Kong International Young Artists Association, a platform dedicated to nurturing young local artists and promoting international collaboration. In 2022, she extended this mission abroad by establishing the Canadian International Young Artists Association. Chantelle firmly believes that art should not exist in isolation, but rather serve as a bridge to society—one that activates collective creativity and empowers future generations.Through exhibitions, workshops, and outreach initiatives, countless young artists have benefited from her mentorship and vision, gaining the opportunity to share their voices and realize their dreams.

Chantelle’s artistic journey continues to evolve—illuminating the path for a new generation of creators to thrive and contribute to the cultural landscape of Hong Kong and beyond.

AS A MAN CAME FROM HIS MOTHER'S WOMB, SO HE WILL DEPART AGAIN, NAKED AS HE ARRIVED.

You came naked, and you left as a puff of smoke. In fact, life is so simple. No matter how rich and glorious, no matter how much love and hatred, no matter how famous, in the end, it will all be gone. Treat every day well, cherish every day, live every day well; treat every day as a lifetime, and don't waste time on worry, worry, sigh, and regret. Seize the time, enjoy life, enjoy health, enjoy happiness, and enjoy all the happiness that belongs to you. Cherish those who love you and those you love! Life is pure adventure, and the sooner we realise that the quicker we will be able to treat life as art.
